Reflections

Wow I can not believe Conner will be 2 months on Tuesday.  He has changed so much since he was born.  Today I was looking though pictures from the hospital, working on a Shutterfly book, wow has he gotten big.  He is starting to hold his head up really well.  Loves to lay on his play mat and kick his feet, looking at the mirrored octopus.  Conner is smiling more and cooing more often.

He made his first big trip at the beginning of the month.  We went to Minnesota for Easter and he was baptized on Easter Sunday, in the same baptism gown his Grandma, Great-uncle, Mom, Uncle Callen, and my cousin Jamie were all baptized in.  He was awed over by all of his grandmas, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandpas, and many friends.  He did very well on the car ride both there and back, but it helped that we stopped 1/2 way overnight.  Grandma and Grandpa even babysat one night while we went out to dinner with friends.

I am thanking my lucky stars that Breast Feeding has been going great.  I have been pumping once a day to start a freezer stash of breast milk for when I have to go back to work.  Currently I have almost 90 oz frozen!! Cloth Diapering has also been going great.  We used some home made diapers the first month, until Conner got to big for them.  Now we are almost exclusively using BumGenius 4.0 Diapers (http://www.bumgenius.com/).  We have 24 Diapers and do a load of diaper laundry every other day.  BumGenius Diapers according to there website fit baby's from 7-35 pounds.  We have found we like the snap closures better because they stay on more securely.  I will write more later about the savings of Cloth Diapers not only on the environment but also the wallet.

I LOVE being home with Conner.  He keeps me laughing and busy.  I am dreading going back to work on the 9th of May.  He will go to daycare starting the 16th.  I love our daycare lady, Elizabeth, so I know he will be in good hands, but I am still nervous about going without him for 10 hours.  I am trying not to focus on that yet and trying to enjoy my time at home with Conner.

Great weekend

Wow Mike and I had another great weekend!  Mom and Dad got here around 1 on Friday.  And got right to work.

On Friday Dad and Mike installed a new water heater and started to replace the 2 prong outlets with 3 prong outlets on the main level. The water heater went in fast... the outlets were a bit more challenging and were left half done.  When they were done we had Alaskan Halibut and Asparagus for dinner.  Then sat in the red bathroom for over an hour trying to decide on how best to redo it.

Saturday morning we ate the Berry Good French Toast Bake Mom and I had made Friday.   (http://lonesomehollow.com/recipes/dish/berry-good-french-toast-bake/)  It was really really yummy.  Then Dad and Mike got to work again!  They installed the new chandelier in the dinning room.  Then installed 3 new ceiling fans up stairs, one in each bedroom.  The boys also finished the electrical work on the first floor.  Mom and I went to the few garage sales there were around town.  We did not find much but we did find a glider for the nursery for only $30!!  I was not planning on getting a glider but for $30 vs $500 at the furniture store, I could not say no and it will look good in the nursery.  We also went to Ashley Furniture and Mom and Dad bought us (Mike, Me and Blueberry)  a new recliner as their shower gift for blueberry.  It should be to town in about 2 weeks.  It is soooo comfy.  Saturday night we had Grandma O over for dinner.  And then watched How to Train Your Dragon.  Well mom and dad did, Mike and I slept though most of it.

Sunday we got up and went to the 9:30 church service.  Then came home and got to work...again.  Dad sealed some opening on the outside of the house, they put up a new light in the back yard, put a new lock on the shed, brought our kayak over from Grandma O's, snaked out a couple of drains in the basement and by the laundry and tried to fix our basement shower.   The basement shower just needs to but ripped out and redone, well the whole bathroom does but it will work until the red bath is redone in November.

Today we got up had a few muffins talked a bit.  Then made a list of things both Dad and Mike need to get or get done befroe November so we are ready for the bathroom redo. Dad and Mike hung a shelf up in our bedroom and I moved a picture.  Then it was time to say good bye.  I think Cora and Willow were the saddest to say good bye.  They play so well together and wear each other out for the most part.

I can't wait for Mom, Dad and Willow to come back in November!

Theodore Roosevelt Nation Park

Saturday the construction crew took the day off!!!  Which was perfect because my Mom and Dad were up for the weekend.  Saturday turned out to be a BEAUTIFUL day!  So while Mike slept, since he is on night again, we loaded up the car and drove south to the North unit of Theodore Roosevelt Nation Park.  We did about a 2 hour hike, the canons are breath taking.  We also saw 4 bison, some flowers, and birds. Here are just a few pictures

On the way back

On the way to and from the badlands we drove through my construction project and then across the Missouri River.  Which if you have not hear is at a record high of 29.02 feet, the previous record was 28.00 feet in 1912.  Thankfully right where we live there has not been property damage yet, but is both Minot and Bismark the flood fighting started a month ago and continues on.  I really hope they do not have the close the road shown below because it would add 20 minutes to my drive to the construction site.

Update

Mike and I had a great week and weekend, last week.  Mike went to MN on Tuesday after work.  After the home inspection and work I headed to the train station on Wednesday.  The train ran a bit behind, but I slept good on it and I got to the church 15 minutes before the funeral began, thanks to my mom and the GPS.  We had a great time hanging out with Mike's Family.  His Aunt Pam was back from Indonesia, his brother Jory came back from training with Army and the usual gang were all there. After saying good bye to Grandpa I, the funeral and burial we hung out at Grandma I's house, which had a ton of food and relatives.
Mike, Matt, Tasha, Jory and Preston
Friday we went to the MOA, took his other brother Jeff out to lunch, walked around IKEA, discovered LUSH (www.lush.com) , and then headed to Minneapolis to visit the family again. Friday night we played dominoes with Lauren, Rachel and my mom.  It was a ton of fun. Saturday we had to get up and head back to ND. Mike had to work Sunday.  Over all our trip home was great, but a little sad, and short.
Mike and I
This past week was also busy week.  Tuesday and Wednesday I was in Bismarck for a work orientation. It was informative but a bit boring, I did find out that if I work there for the next 30 years, I can retire at 55 with full benefits!  Which would be pretty sweet. Today, Friday, Mike and I slept in! It was great, then we took the dog for a walk. After our walk we went and looked at a bunch of stores to get ideas about the house. Then we went to a few rummage sales, to look for things for the house.  We ended up getting one thing for the house, a dish drying rack for the kitchen. I also found the sheet music for the Entertainer. Mike found some thing he HAD to HAVE. A belt buckle from the Police Departments 100 year anniversary, from 1994.  It is pretty cool.  Tomorrow we plan to hit up some more rummage sales, go to a friends party, and take the dog on a walk.  I hope everyone has a great memorial day weekend.

Mixed Emotions

The past few days have been full of mixed emotions.  About many things.  The house, Grandpa I, making sure we can make it home plus get everything together for the house, how Grandma I is doing and sending prayers for peace.

First an foremost Mike is taking off for Minnesota tonight after work.  He will stay with my cousins in Moorhead before heading to Minneapolis in the morning. I will be taking the train on Wednesday night and getting to St. Paul on Thursday morning early.  The funeral is on Thursday at 11:00 am with a viewing at 10:00.  Mike will be wearing his dress uniform.  I can't wait to give Grandma I and Mike Sr both a big big hug. (I am so glad that we are closer to "home" and we can easily make to there vs. living in Alaska.)

On to a house update:
Yesterday I went to the bank and signed a boat load of papers for the loan.  Then brought them home for Mike to sign, since he had to work late.  We have locked in our interest rate at a very good rate of 4.25%!  Next we have our home inspection which I also have mixed emotions on.  It will begin on Wednesday at 9:00 am.  I will be "attending" the whole thing, measuring the rooms and taking a TON of pictures.  I am super excited to get back in the house and explore a little more but at the same time I am super nervous that the home inspection is going to find a deal breaker.  Now, don't get me wrong, if there is something wrong with the house we want to know about it.  But at the same time I really hope and pray that nothing will show up, because if there is something wrong than we have to start over... which would be a pain because currently there are no other homes on the market in our price range that we would consider.    I really do not want to let this one get away because it is well under our budget and we can really make it our own.

I will post some pictures after the home inspection... wish us luck

Grandpa Isenhower

Grandpa Isenhower has been in tough shape for a while. When we went home to Minnesota a few weekends ago he was in the hospital in the ICU, about a 1.5 weeks ago he was released to a recovery home and on Wednesday he was happy to finally be at home.  Last night he apparently passed out and they have not been able to completely revive him.  He is currently on life support but he will be taken off of it shortly.  He is a strong and resilient man.  I pray for peace for the entire Isenhower Family.

- For my expended family and in-laws who love us
- That Grandma O is allowing us to live with her

- For Cora and Java.
- For more than enough food to eat every day and not having to worry about going hungry
- For Marja, Nicole, and Samantha who I can call at any time to laugh or vent with
- For my faith in God, know that all will work out
- For Callens life and all he has taught me
- For health, dental and vision insurance we have through my job
- For our Adorable 2 nephews (Preston-4 and Wyatt-1), for the 1 nephew on the way and the other niece/nephew on the way
- For my health
- For the wonderful nature that you can find almost anywhere if you are looking for it
- The knowledge I have about saving money
- For Spring!

Hope every one had a Happy Easter.
( I promise to post some pictures soon...)

Birthday week

This week is the week of birthdays.  First Mike Brother Mathews Birthday is the 12th.  The 13th is a big day.  It was Wyatt's 1st birthday, Jory's birthday and My moms birthday.  Then Mike Srs birthday is the 16th.  And finally Jacobs 2nd birthday in the 18th.  Where did the last 2 years go?

In other news I have started the C25K... again.  I did W2D1 on Saturday and W3D1 on Monday.  Cora has been doing it with me... it really tires her out.   I would also like to start doing Yoga more.. but currently we still have water coming into our bedroom.  I really have no place to do it, unless I push the bed completely again the wall in our room.  So I cannot wait until the water stops and I can start Yoga.  For now I think we have decide to not get a gym membership, walk out side and save money for a house.  But as things have it I injured my foot after 2 days of running.  I had a lump on top of my left foot that hurts... Going to take a few days off and re-evaluate.

I have a to give a HUGE congrats shout out to our friends Hans and Samantha!  They found out last week that Hans got a job in South Dakota!!  So they are packing up and heading out.  They will only be 8 hours away from us :)  Which is amazingly close, considering the other options they had been looking at.  They also had an offer accepted on a house where they are moving to.  Lots of changes for them but I am so happy it is all working out for them.  We only have to find a way to get our wine down with them.

This weekend we are heading to Minneapolis to celebrate all the birthdays.  We headed out Thursday night, and spend the night in Moorhead with my cousins.  Today we got up and are headed for Minneapolis.   Mike took Thursday night off work so we could head out and with Good Friday next week, I would normally have Thursday off, But my boss rocks and is letting me take Monday off instead, so we do not need to rush back as quick. We just have to make it back for Mike to go to work Monday night at 6.  Hopefully I will have some fun picture to post next week.

Packing Packing and some fun

Mike and I have been spending this weekend packing, packing and packing.  You can only take so much packing before you head implodes.  After about 2-3 hours you stand there looking at the organized chaos you have created and have no idea where to go next.  This weekend we completed the guest room, it is 100% packed! (except for a few big pictures.)  We have about 90% of our close packed.  The kitchen... well we have 3 smallish boxes packed.  And need to find more boxes... or buy some.

I am going to get on a soap box here and say why in the h*ll are "moving" boxes so darn expensive.  Everywhere we go we ask if they have boxes and all the stores have said that they either do not have any "free" boxes or that we can buy moving boxes.  Sorry I do not believe that they do not have any boxes.  I know for a fact they recycle a lot of boxes everyday.  And second why are the boxes they sell $3-$5 a freaking box.  Really ugh.... stepping of the soap box.

Friday night was awesome. We had bought a wine making experience a while ago on Groupon.  So we went and tasted wine for about 2 hours ... amazing!  Then we helped mix a wine, a Luna Biana Chardonnay Wine.  It will not be ready to bottle for 8 weeks.  We will not be here so some friends have volunteered to bottle it for us.  And then ship it or bring it to us later.

This weekend we also drove out to Eagle River Nature center for some fun.  We went snow shoeing with Cora of course.  She was so much fun to watch bounce in the snow.  I have some pictures but have been having some... technical difficulties posting them.  We also went out to lunch yesterday and had some yummy Mexican food.

Sunday we had church and taught our k-1st-2nd graders.  They are so darn cute.  I got their addresses and promised to send them cards from North Dakota.  Then we dropped of our recycling.  And packed for a couple hours... got to the Chaos phase and took Cora for a 2 hours walk.  Then packed some more.  We watched the "new" Karate Kid on netflix... not 1/2 as good as the first one if you ask me....  but yeah.

Tomorrow my work is closed...but we have a submittal on Tuesday and I have to finish the "package" as much as I can tomorrow so we can submit early on Tuesday.  I also have a physical type this for my new job.  Tomorrow night I think we are going to go to Simon and Seafort's for happy hour to use up our remaining gift card.  Then pack pack and more packing.

My dad is flying up on Wednesday and then Mike and him are leaving in a Uhaul on Friday.  My mom and I will follow on the following Thursday.  I will try to update more later...

We are Adopting

After a long time thinking about it Mike and I have decide to a Adopt a Dog.  We went to an Adoption Fair at Petco on Saturday and saw a bunch of dogs.  Mike we were kinda focused on the puppies but after talking we decided a dog would be better.  We looked at an adoption web page and Cora came up.  I remembered seeing her at the event Saturday.  Mike contacted the agency and we went to meet her last night.  She is an absolute Doll.  High energy yes, but very sweet.  We hung out at her Fosters house and then took her on a short walk.  She actually was listening to me, better then Mike. We are filing the paper work today and seeing her tonight.  Then I plan on picking her up on Sunday after church, walking her and introducing her to Java and our home... ( I am not sure what Java is going to think.)  If all goes well we will adopt her full time when Mike gets off of work on the 20th.  We already have a vet appointment set up on the 21st to get her checked out.... we are already in love...

Here is what the webpage said about her:
Meet Cora! She is a 1.5 year old Husky mix. This girl only stops moving when she lays down! She took a couple of days to warm up (she was shy and a bit nervous at first), but is very sweet now that she is getting more comfortable. She is very high energy, loves a lot of play and to go for a long daily walk or two. She is doing very well with the cat, and excellent with the neighbors three female dogs. She likes playing with her rope and ball, and knows all of her basic commands. She walks very well on a leash if not allowed to charge ahead. She is submissive and very well behaved but still an independent thinker. She's sleeping in a crate at night and rides well in the car around town. This girl is a gem!

Winter Gloom

Sorry for anyone who's following my blog I have just not been in the writing mood the last couple of weeks.

This holiday season is hard for me and the darkness of an Alaskan winter seems me be pressing on me more this year than in the past.

A friend, Liz, from high school posted on her facebook for extra prayers today, her little brother, JP, passed away two years ago today at the age of 21.  JP, like Callen, was a lovable guy.  He had the greatest sense of humor and could make everyone laugh, with the crazy stories he told.  Both Liz and JP were on the Shot Put and Discus team with me in high school.  I remember after Saturday practices we would all load up and go to OCB (Old Country Buffet).  Getting the soup bowls to use for ice cream, since the ice cream ones were so tiny.  I also worked with JP as a cart person at Target in high school.  He made the hours go by faster, was a hard worker and would make everyone laugh.  It sucks that both Liz and I have to go through losing our only sibling, our younger brother, someone who could light up a room with their charm.  It sucks that our parents had to lose their only son, and youngest child.  It sucks that all the family functions in the future look so much different now than they did before.  JP is missed by many.

In other news Mike and I have been busy decorating for Christmas.  Changing the table cloth and candles.  Exchanging the fall decoration with leafs for snowmen and Santa's. And I put out our 3 nativity scenes.  I have a Willow Angel set, a Precious Moments set and a new porcelain set  this year from my mom (her and my grandma have the same one).  We are debating whether or not we will get a tree.  As Grinchy as it sounds a live tree is a lot of work and who other then us is going to see it?  And we have no place to store an artificial tree. One of the locally owned green houses has some small trees so we might go get one of those to put a few ornaments on and the presents under.

Speaking of presents we are 100% done with Christmas Shopping.  I just have a few things to finish wrapping and then we will ship the box off to Minnesota for Mike's family.  We gave my parents a sign for their cabin in November, as their Christmas gift.  Can I say that it hits me over and over again that I do not get to buy Callen a gift this year.  I wish I could buy him a ticket to come and visit us up here because I know that he would LOVE it.

Hello again

We are back from Minnesota
Well actually the picture above is from Wisconsin at my parents Cabin but we are back in Alaska.  We had a great trip home seeing family, friends, and learning how to drum better.  I loved meeting our nephew Wyatt from the first time.
We spent a bunch of time up at the cabin with my parents
The weather was amazing.

September

Holy Cow, how is it already September? Where did the summer go? This was the fastest summer ever, I guess that is what happens when you are in Kodiak for the first 6 weeks, move/organize a new place, and have 2.5 full weeks of visitors. Seriously we only went camping twice this summer, have only have the kayak out twice, I have been on very few bike rides and I most certainly do not have tan.
September means that Marja will be here is TODAY!! I am so pumped to see her!
September means we have been married for TWO YEARS! Holy Crap how does that happen?
September also means that in only 2 short months we are going to Minnesota! I cannot wait to see everyone again and under happy circumstances. My mom is planning a family dinner on Halloween and my cousins kids are going to go trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. I was thinking about pulling out my wedding dress (which still needs to be cleaned) and going with them. My grandmother thinks I am crazy but I think it sounds fun. We are also planning to go to my parents cabin in Wisconsin for a couple of nights, to get away. Hopefully it is still kinda warm and we can go out in the kayaks.
September 1st I also ran W4D1 of the C25k with out stopping! I had to slow down a bit for the last 5 minute run but I finished it without quitting!!
Oh and it means that my online class started. I am taking Arctic Engineering at UAA this year. It is required to take the PE test in Alaska so my employer is paying for it! Hopefully I will learn something new.

p.s. have I mentioned lately how much I love my husband. He is freaking awesome. This morning when he got done working a 12 hour overnight shift he came home and made me a beautiful breakfast in bed. I had cheesy eggs, hash browns and toast with a yummy cup of coffee. Seriously how much better does it get.

Summer

Summer has gone by WAY TOO FAST. I can not believe it is already the end of August. We had an awesome time with Grandpa and Grandma I and Mike Sr. It went by a little fast but we did a lot of stuff. About the time they left both Java and I got sick. Java with her continuing Bladder problems but they have been diagnosed as Feline Interstitial Cystitis (FIC). And is feeling much better after some pain meds to "calm" her bladder. I started getting a sore throat on Tuesday, came home from work on Wednesday at noon. Slept and took my temp... it was 101.4 YIKES! I took so Tylenol, brought Java to her vet appointment, came home temp was down to 100 so I took a nap. Hung out with our visitor and took them to the airport. Mike and I stopped for McDonald's ice cream on the way home and I went to be EARLY. I woke up at 5 and still had a way sore throat and a temp of 99 so I reset the alarm for 8 to call the doctor. Mike was sweet enough to call the doctor for me and drive me there. It turns out I had strep so we got my meds at Target and head home for a day of crappy TV, apple juice and Kraft mac and cheese.

Today, Saturday, I am feeling 100% better. I even went back to the gym and ran week 3 for the 2nd day on my "running" plan, which I was supposed to do on Wednesday. Mike and I have pictures at church tonight for our church directory. I will try to post them later.

They Made it

Mike Sr, Grandma I and Grandpa I made it to Alaska on Wednesday! Mike took the day off to surprise them at the airport, they thought he had to work all day. We had some yummy Costco pizza for lunch, showed them around our place and since it was nice out we decided to drive up to flat top to show them the view! It was a bit chilly up there. We walked around the lower trails took some pictures, Mike picked a few blue berries and we headed back down. On the way back down there was a moose on the side of the road! They were all really excited to see it but did not get a picture of it since it ran off to fast.
Once back at the condo it was actually SUNNY out! I sat outside in the sun for an hour or so and had tan lines! Yeah that is how white I am. We hung out talked, watched a little TV. Mike Sr and I walked to Moose's Tooth to get some cream soda in a growler, yummy. While Mike started dinner. We had salmon on the grill, asparagus, rice, and blueberry rhubarb pie for dessert. We spent the rest of the night hanging out at the house. Calling it a night early.
Thursday I had to go back to work, bummer. Mike and the crew went to Earth Quake Park and to Potter Marsh. They saw salmon and eagles and Denali! The sun was out and shining again! When I got home form work Mike Sr was making Goulash for dinner. We invited Samantha and Jacob over for dinner and after dinner we loaded up the kayak and headed down to Westchester Lagoon. Mike Sr and I walked. Samantha tried to take Jacob out in the Kayak, but that only lasted about 2 minutes. Mike and I both went out, and Mike Sr decided not to try it. So we loaded up and headed home for the evening. It is so so so nice to have Visitors.

This weeks plan

I finished week one of the couch to 5K on Friday. Week one was pretty easy, but it gets my legs and shins used to running again. Today I did day one of week 2 which is run 90 second, walk 2 minutes, for 20 minutes. A bit more difficult than week one but I did not feel like I was going to die which is always a good feeling.

Wednesday and Friday I will have to get up early to run. Because Mike Sr, and G&G I are coming Wednesday at noon! I am going to pick them up because Mike has to work, but we are going to go see him on his break at 2:30. I am so excited for them to come, see our new place, show them around Anchorage and just hang out!

Saturday night I have a crop night from 5-11 I am so excited, I have not been to a Crop since ohhh MAY! That is way too long. I have so many pictures to scrap.

Sunday Mike and Mike Sr, along with Hans are driving back down to Ninilchik to try to go Halibut Fishing...again. They attempted to go 2x when my dad and mom where here, but the waves were just to big. Cross your fingers they get to go out and they catch some fish. G&G I and I will go to church and probably do some shopping! I hope there is some sun.

By the way I have not mentioned that Anchorage broke its own record the other day... 32 continuous days with rain fall and counting. I think I am going to start building my ark and rounding up animals.
